Nostalgia, Available
in both English and Swedish!

Nostalgia is available now!

Are you ready to relive the greatest adventures you never had?

Nostalgia is a fast-paced and exciting story-telling game for two or more players of all ages. The participants take the roles of old, retired heroes who have lost most of their greatness (and parts of their wits), but whose minds are still filled with the thrilling adventures and wonderful journeys of their youth.

About the game

Look at them, how they sit by the fire with the children spellbound all around them, bickering over who is the greatest hero of all time. As we all know, the egos of old heroes grow big at the same pace as their memories grow dim. A long time ago, they did things that are now the stuff of legends, but see how they argue over who really killed that dragon!

Adding to and exaggerating the story to make it more interesting for the children is of course necessary, indeed only natural. Listening to their arguments, it’s easy to believe that the true purpose of telling stories is to show off. What actually happened is secondary. It’s as if they are playing a storytelling game, where the goal is to win the admiration of the children gathered around them.

Nostalgia is just such a game, a game in which you and your friends tell a story together, but you do it as if you were retired heroes and the story took place so long ago that nobody remembers what happened. Vivid imagination and a silver tongue are a lot more useful than accurate recall!

The goal is to show off and boast, convincing everybody that you deserve the undivided admiration of the younger generation. To do that, you need the ability not only to highlight your own greatness, but also to make the others look bad if you get the chance. This is an ability that every human possesses, but which is often kept in check by social rules and proper upbringing. When playing Nostalgia, open those closed gates and let the primal need to boast flow freely. Let everybody know that you are the best!

Playing Nostalgia is very easy. In fact, the only things you need to play are this book, pencils, paper and a deck of normal playing cards. You also need a small pile of tokens to keep track of points. Anything goes, from pebbles to sapphires.

A round of Nostalgia takes up to an hour to play, but if you like the game, it’s certainly possible to play longer. Conversely, if you’re in a hurry, you can wrap it up in about half an hour; it all depends on what you want.

So, let’s get started, it’s time for some Nostalgia!

FAQ

What is Nostalgia about?

Nostalgia is a game where you as the heroes brag about your passed deeds in order to impress the most children (that is, score points). You tell the same story with a set ending and some obstacles you bested on the way, but how is entirely up to you.

The game use game mechanics to solve disputes and award points.

How much does Nostalgia cost?

We offer several ways to obtain Nostalgia and how much the printed books cost are partly dependent on the printer and distributor.

However, the digital editions (PDFs) are Pay What You Want, that is: you may pay as much as you can and want. That’s a great way to check out the game before buying it.

Who have illustrated Nostalgia?

The magnificent cover art is created by Owe Lundquist.

For the interior art, we have looked to the ones who illustrated the stories of yore. All the art are collected from Public Domain (with some editing by Martin Ackerfors). We owe our gratitude to: John D. Batten, Édouard de Beaumont, Robert Anning Bell, Eduard Bendemann, Léon Benett, Charles H. Bennett, Gordon Browne, Hablot Knight Browne, Harry Clarke, Walter Crane, Thomas Dalziel, Yan Dargent, Gustave Doré, Richard Doyle, John Elliott, Jules Férat, Henry Justice Ford, Warwick Goble, J. J. Grandville, William John Hennessy, William Thomas, Horton, Arthur Boyd Houghton, Tony Johannot, Wilhelm Jordan, Wilhelm von Kaulbach, Antonio Masutti, Alphonse de Neuville, Matteo di Pasti, George John Pinwell, Hermann Plüddemann, Howard Pyle, Arthur Rackham, George Woolliscroft Rhead, Louis Rhead, Albert Robida, Virginia Frances Sterrett,

What do I need to play?

• A PDF or print version of Nostalgia.
• Paper and pencils.
• Player reference cards (for those who are new to the game).
• Hero cards (from the tutorial or newly created) or for all players.
• A deck of ordinary playing cards (no jokers).
• Tokens to keep the score (ten per player should be enough).

What are the differences between this and the first edition?

If you are one of the ancients who remember the first edition (released solely in Swedish in the year of mercy 2008), you will recognize most of the fun, but there are some important changes:

Firstly, the book is a lot more usable with help to get the game going. You will find an extensive tutorial for your first game, as well as lists to randomize your heroes and adventures from, or just to kickstart your imagination.

Secondly, this edition does to a larger extent reward good story-telling, and more importantly, does not over-reward luck.

Hur mycket kostar Nostalgi?

.
