1d100 Years. A Roleplaying Game of Wonderful Realities
Many years ago, as the last remnants of a town in a swamp sank into the mud, a story of this once glorious place and its inhabitants were told among the sailors in Cartagena, Barranquilla, and Santa Marta, as they passed the time between the voyages. This is a roleplaying game about those stories, where you, as the players, bring the town to its heights before it’s inevitable ruin.
1D100 Years is available in English and Swedish.
About the Game
1d100 Years is a minimalistic roleplaying game which catches the spirit of magical realistic stories. The game is painted and written as a 100 x 70 cm (39.37″ x 27.56″) poster, and is, so far, available in English and Swedish.
To play, you need at least three players, a set of dice, and a basic understanding of what a roleplaying game is. Each of you will have a Role to portray, and you will tell a story together about your Roles, the town they live in, and its prophesied doom. The story is divided into Chapters with a set chapter heading, and for each Chapter, one of you will be the Narrator.

Frequently Asked Questions
How did you create the painting?
The painting as an aquarelle made on a 100 x 70 cm (39.37″ x 27.56″) paper from scratch. To estimate how much space was needed for the text, I made a digital sketch, printed it and cut it into pieces placed as jig saw pieces on the paper. Then I painted layer upon layer to get the sense of depth.
Why did you create the game as a poster?
That is a good question! There are three major reasons:
- I got the idea of creating a game in an unusual (although not unique) form. And I wanted it to be as colourful as possible.
- I wanted to make a first serious attempt of aquarelle painting.
- I needed a project to take my mind from other things.
What are the rules in 1D100 Years?
The rules are rules-light and inspired by the fantastic Into the Odd by Chris McDowall, but with a twist of collective narrating with timers for each character. I’m pretty sure they’re not as unique as it may seem, but I cannot remember where I got the inspiration from. Sorry!
Why did you create the game?
I love stories of magical realism and though it may be unwise to name any actual inspirations, there are a lot of story-tellers from Latin America who I admire. 1D100 Years is my homage to such stories, vivid in colour despite depicting human beings in their sorrow, foolishness and/or mania.
